How should I prepare my soil for grass?
I’m planning on planting some grass seed in an area with bare soil to help get it started. Should I do anything special to prepare the soil for planting?

I would prepare it by tilling probably 6″ to 8″ deep. Then add in some soil amendments such as compost, molasses, lava sand, etc. Mix that in real well and then add grass seed or sod. The more work you put into the soil beforehand, the easier it will be to grow grass in the future.

LikeDislikeFirst, use starter fertilizer, I know it costs a lot, but it helps out a ton because the grass will com in thicker and establish itself a lot faster. (You can use organic fertilizer instead.)
Also you can cover it with peat moss, (this will keep it moist and help keep the birds from eating all the seed.)
The third think you should do is to water it regularly. If you forget to water it everyday, your germination rate will drop significantly.
